Our shared vision is to see a verdant and flourishing world, filled with peace and wholeness for all people. We are committed to equipping and empowering women and men to make a difference in their communities by providing world class graduate degrees enabling WCIU alumni to embark upon their next level of leadership and contribution to societal flourishing. Our mission compels us to expand our global scholarship fund to support 250 students and to establish two regional hubs in Africa and South Asia.

Our current and potential students live and serve in vulnerable communities. Despite being plagued by poverty, disease, violence, drought, and inadequate power and water supplies, they bring hope and healing through their leadership roles in diverse sectors. They are eager to enhance their skills and intellectual capital to influence positive change in mission work, health care, education, not-for-profit organizations, agriculture development and business.
Our graduate programs are distinctive because WCIU enables students to stay based in their local contexts while they study. Our innovative distance education bridges the gap by increasing accessibility and affordability. Unfortunately, the reality is that prospective students do not have the financial capability to pay for a graduate degree, even though they can ‘stay at home’ while they study. Our vision is to find resources through donor partners who will generously help support 250 change-makers from the Global South.

William Carey International University was established by Dr. Ralph D. Winter in 1977 under the auspices of the US Center for World Missions. His vision was to the take training to where people lived serving God and communities. in their contexts. This approach enabled training to be context specific. He was a great proponent of the pedagogical method known as Theological Education by Extension (TEE). This approach bridged several gaps that traditional residential theological education could not.
Years later, WCIU continues to bridge the gap through its impactful online program offerings—the Master of Arts in Development Studies, Master of Arts in Transformational Urban Leadership, and its PhD program in Global Development. Six institutes and several certificate and noncredit courses round out the dynamic educational opportunities. The Global South Hubs in Africa and South Asia will expand the University’s presence in these regions. Field coordinators and ambassadors in several countries will be the faces and voice of the University to our current and prospective students, churches, mission and non-profit organizations, businesses, and governmental institutions as we seek to enhance our visibility and impact.
