Global Women's Empowerment Scholarship Awarded

By Dr. Lois Semenye

The Women’s Institute (WI) of WCIU recently launched a Global Women Empowerment Scholarship. This scholarship is based on merit and need informed. It is with pleasure that WI Steering Committee awarded the first scholarships in September to two deserving students. The first recipients were Bernadetta Saukira and Yan Wang both students of Masters of Arts in Development Studies have visions of what they intend to accomplish in their lives. The following is what they wrote:

Bernadetta Saukira, WCIU Student from Malawi

‘I can honestly say that the Lord made a way for me where there was no way through the Global Women's Empowerment Scholarship because it came at a time when I was contemplating deferring my studies due to financial constraints. This scholarship will make my dreams and plans come true and I will continue to empower the youth around me, especially girls to work harder in school and strive to be future leaders. As a role model to them, I will demonstrate to them that with diligence and determination, they too can achieve their goals and even surpass my accomplishments’.

Yan Wang, WCIU Student from China

‘The impact of scholarship to me has a far-reaching effect. I'm really inspired and encouraged. Before starting my course, I was worried that I would struggle financially. The scholarship is very helpful and I can focus on my studies now. Meanwhile, I feel God is on my side and help me all the time. I will prepare me to impact many women in my ministry. Thank you!’

Listening to these two ladies, one can feel their gratitude and foresee what they will accomplish in the future. The Women's Institute is grateful to have launched this scholarship during the tenure of Dr, Grace May. We thank her for this initiative. We believe little in the hands of God can do much! Our prayers for our first recipients are that they will excel, complete their studies and apply what they are learning to the glory of God. To those who contributed to this venture, our prayer is that our Lord will give you even more as you invest in our students. To our continuing students, take advantage of this scholarship!
